Reviving the center of American politics indeed. The two-party system has evolved to the point of polar opposites ('yelling at each other and beating each other up', as you like to say), with the American middle being tossed to the lions. That, and term limits, a key ingredient the Founders regrettably missed in their otherwise brilliant, proto-post-modern, decentralization of power. My hope was the Libertarians ( i.e. re-baptized classical liberals) would fit the ticket, and maybe someday they will, but in the meantime, any addition to the voice of reason in American politics would be highly salutary.
I assume that both you know, as experts on history and human ideas, that we are in the process of a major transition of the world.
The ideas that built the modern world are rapidly disappearing. They are the morality of Christianity and individual freedom. Neither one is sufficient. Both are necessary.
What is your platform to restore each? Otherwise no matter who is the winner, we are headed for an authoritarian world, this time without any semblance of a restraining morality.
Look closely at any individual and you will find that he is not suitable for high office, look at the policies that lie behind the individual and the decision becomes clear. You criticize higher education for its repudiation of Western Civilization and history yet are reluctant to openly endorse a candidate or disclose which you see as the lesser evil. I don’t blame you, as your followers fall on both sides of an enormous divide. I will vote for Donald Trump for the sake of everyone on both sides of this divide and I will continue to value everything you have to say regardless of where you stand on the matter. I believe that those who support Trump will be further persecuted, I believe that they will be forced into a corner and cast as terrorists, and those that defend them will continue to be censored, and jailed. Eventually those who defend the West will be associated with them regardless of how they decided to vote. And if by that time you continue to believe that you stand in the middle of two extremes you will fail to notice that you too are a ‘far right extremist’
I would definitely vote for Sugrue too. Despite Trump's character, his policies are much better than the Democrats. Better than worse in any case.
